Implants: Replacement Teeth For The Modern Era
- Posted on: Sep 9 2016
Hello and welcome to another September edition of the Clear Lake Dental Care blog!
We hope that you are ready for Fall and all the fun that goes along with it. As always, we hope you have plenty of opportunities to share your smile. Of course, we understand that you won’t feel much like smiling if you are struggling in the wake of tooth loss as an adult.
You are likely in physical and emotional pain, and looking for a way to permanently restore your life.
Well, these days, it is easier than ever before to do just that.
The best plan, when suitable to the situation, is a dental implant procedure.
Plenty of the patients at our Webster dentist’s office are thrilled to hear about implants, and the fact that our team is comprised of the leading experts in the area, but they are apprehensive until they know exactly what they can expect.
As such, with today’s post we’re going to cover dental implants, how they work, and how they replicate the look, feel, and function of natural teeth. Read on to hear more, and then be sure to get in touch with our Texas team to schedule your consultation!
What Are Dental Implants?
It is always best to start at the beginning. So, here’s the deal: dental implants are made of of a metal known as titanium. We use titanium because it bonds so well to bone in a process called osseointegration. But we’ll get to that.
The thing you need to know is that implants are engineered to mimic the part that a natural tooth root would play in your mouth.
To our eyes, implants look somewhat like a little screw on account of the way they are threaded. This is what allows us to attach a wide array of caps, abutments, and oral appliances to them.
The strength of the bond formed between a dental implant and your jawbone is sometimes more intense than the bond between your bone and natural teeth. Accordingly, you won’t ever have to worry about them coming loose.
You will love that, if cared for properly, a dental implant will remain in place forever.
Is The Placement Process Easy?
There’s not much to the procedure, though it is technically a surgery. To put it in layman’s terms, the implants are screwed into your jaw, where they are allowed to heal and bond to the bone over the course of 2-3 months.
Implants used to be left alone to heal with a simple abutment cap in place, but that’s not the case anymore. Modern dental implants, whether a single tooth, partial bridge, or full mouth solution, can all be restored with a temporary crown or bridge on the same visit they’re placed.
With our CEREC technology, you will never have to leave our office with a less than complete smile.
After healing has happened you’ll come back to Clear Lake Dental Care to have your permanent crown or bridge attached to your implant and you’ll be ready to move on with the life you used to know.
Do Implants Work Like Teeth?
We are convinced that these are the best replacement options available to adult patients struggling with the after-effects of tooth loss.
You will find that dental implants are comfortable and functional because they distribute biting force just like natural teeth.
When we are through with the process, you’ll be able to enjoy the foods that make you happy and keep you healthy. Plus, you will get your facial structure and smile back. So, you will look better and feel better in no time!
