I Wanna Be Sedated: The Perks of Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry | Webster, TXIn our industry, we know that there are very few people who actually enjoy coming to the dentist. In fact, one of the biggest things that we run into with our patients is a fear of coming to our office to begin with. To help you feel a little bit calmer during your next visit, we may talk to you about sedation dentistry.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is a relatively new form of dentistry that’s designed to help patients who have anxiety about dentistry feel calm and comfortable during their visit. Whether you suffer from a slight amount of anxiety or if you feel like you’re going to have a panic attack every time you come in, we have several forms of sedation dentistry that we can use to help you remain as calm as possible.

What Kinds of Sedation Dentistry Are There?

During your initial consultation with us at Clear Lake Dental Care, we will go over what type of sedation dentistry will be best for you. Typically, forms of sedation dentistry include:

Mild Sedation: If we are just going to be doing a regular dental cleaning and checkup, then we may only offer you something as small as either a Valium or laughing gas depending on your medical history. Both of these items are great at treating patients with anxiety, but you may need to get a ride home afterward.

Moderate Sedation: If we are going to be doing something that requires a little bit more dental work, then we may recommend that you try some moderate sedation. Moderate sedation includes an IV drip that will administer some sedatives to you. Typically, you will still be conscious but will be really calm.

Deep Sedation: Although we don’t use deep sedation all that often, it is a possibility. With deep sedation, we will use general anesthesia so you will be completely out and won’t remember anything.

With all of these types of sedation, you will need to plan ahead of time and arrange to have someone pick you up from your appointment. If you want to learn more about sedation dentistry, contact our Webster office and call us today at 281-557-8097.
