You have known your entire life that in order to have healthy teeth that you need to brush, floss, and get regular dental cleanings, but if you have just gotten dentures you may not know hat you should do to keep them lasting as long as possible. Although dentures are durable, they are not unbreakable. Let’s take a closer look at a few ways that you can help your dentures last a lot longer.
Use Both Hands to take them out
It’s easy to get into bad habits. One habit that we encourage patients to break or to avoid getting into altogether is using only on hand to take out their dentures. Broken dentures are one of the most common things that we see patients for when they have a problem with their artificial teeth. Try to use both hands every time you remove your dentures. Having two hands on them will help prevent you from dropping and them breaking them.
Clean Them
Having food, germs, and bacteria caked on your dentures aren’t going to make them last longer. Make sure that you soak your dentures every night in a clean denture solution. The goal of these solutions is to help preserve your dentures while also cutting down on bacteria.
In addition to soaking your dentures, also make sure that you brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush. By applying gentle pressure, you can softly remove food that’s caked on them while not causing any scratches or damage to them.
Use a Plastic Case
When you aren’t soaking or wearing your dentures, don’t’ place them on the counter; that’s one of the fastest ways for them to accidentally fall on the ground and get stepped on. Storing your dentures in a plastic case will help keep them safe and protected.
