Dentures: an affordable tooth loss solution for patients
- Posted on: Mar 15 2021
If you are experiencing missing teeth, either total or partial, you may have been doing your research regarding your tooth replacement options. For many of our patients, dentures may be a great way to replace one or more teeth in an economical manner. Dentures have always been a practical and affordable way for patients to restore the smile with natural-looking appliances.
What types of dentures are available?
At Clear Lake Dental Care and Implant Center in Webster, TX, we work directly with patients to assist them in finding a tooth replacement option best for their unique needs. When dentures are recommended, this can be a reference to one of three different types.
The different types of dentures include:
- Partial dentures – partial dentures, sometimes just referred to as “partials,” are appliances that are made to slide into the dental arch. They are supported by the remaining teeth and can replace one or several teeth within the smile. These appliances are easy to care for, and can be adjusted as needed.
- Full dentures – full dentures, or “cosmetic dentures,” replace all the teeth in the dental arch. They are appliances fabricated with high quality acrylics and can be used in achieving a natural-looking smile after significant tooth loss or extractions.
- Implant-retained dentures – traditional full dentures are kept in place with denture adhesives, but some patients still experience problems with keeping them in place. This is the point where our team may recommend implant-retained dentures, which use several dental implants along the dental arch to snap a denture in place. These have better stability and strength, and function more effectively than full dentures with denture adhesives.
